Hockey mom beating death
Update -- May 26
A man charged in connection with the slaying of a 53-year-old Vancouver-area hockey mom is due to appear in court today.
Twenty-seven-year-old Yosef Jomo Gopaul is facing a second-degree murder charge.
Police say the suspect had moved to B.C. from Ontario eight weeks before Julie Paskall was killed.
She died in hospital Dec. 31 following an attack in the parking lot of a arena in Surrey days earlier.
Paskall had gone to pick up her son, who was refereeing a minor hockey league game.
Her death rattled the community near Vancouver and prompted some residents to demand the city and police do more to keep them safe.
Surrey RCMP have laid a second degree murder charge against Yosef Jomo Gopaul, 27, in connection with the slaying of hockey mom Julie Paskall.
Yosef Gopaul is scheduled to make his first court appearance at Surrey Provincial Court on Monday May 26.
More to come.
