Evacuation order remains

UPDATE 2:00 P.M. APRIL 27

Several days later an evacuation order is still in effect for seven properties on Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road, after a risk assessment process was completed by officials.

Emergency Management BC and other provincial agencies were presented a verbal reporting of the situation on McIntyre Creek after yesterday’s field visit by a Geotechnical Engineer and Environmental Geoscientist organized by the Shuswap Emergency Program.

The report has confirmed that a collection of debris remains in the creek channel and additionally identifies pooling of water, which is a concern.

The pooling of water, along with Environment Canada’s weather forecast of possible thunderstorms for the Shuswap area, has determined the Evacuation Order must remain for properties located at the mouth of McIntyre Creek, until remedial work is performed to remove the risk and hazard.

Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure continue work to repair the damage to Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road.

The Shuswap Emergency Program stresses that due to the instability of the area and other safety concerns, the public are asked to keep clear of the incident site. However if you are required to travel through this work site, please be aware that it is a NO STOP zone.
