Underage drinking warning

Mounties in Langley are warning parents who host underage drinking parties after two youths were taken to hospital.

RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Holly Marks says a young girl drank a large amount of liquor at one house party and had to be taken to the hospital because she began to hallucinate, scream, spasm and cry.

She says a young boy started to suffocate after drinking with a group of people in a separate incident and remains hospitalized.

Mounties are particularly concerned about cases where parents are providing liquor or facilitating alcohol consumption by youths.

Supt. Derek Cooke says it is never appropriate for parents to give alcohol to young people, no matter how responsible adults think the youths are.

Cooke says adults are allowed to serve booze to their own children in their own home, but they could be liable for any accidents or injuries that happen on their property.
