Thieves ram mall in brazen jewel theft
Thieves literally drove a stolen Jeep through the front doors of Capilano Mall in North Vancouver ending up in a jewelry store.
The incident unfolded at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday when a stolen red Jeep was driven through the locked southwest doors of the mall.
Once inside the vehicle proceeded through the mall and drove into the security gates of a jewelry store.
Thieves then smashed several glass display cases stealing an undetermined amount of jewelry, exiting the mall the same way it was entered.
Police located the abandoned stolen vehicle a short distance from the mall.
A Police Service Dog searched the area, however a track was not established.
The mall and store property received extensive damage and is being examined by Police Forensics for evidence. Video surveillance is also being analyzed to identify the culprits.
"This is a daring and dangerous criminal offence with police asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the culprits, said Cpl. Richard De Jong of the North Vancouver RCMP.
"Our Crime Analysts are working closely with other Police Departments to assist in the investigation."
