Man charged after Red Scorpion murder

Police have laid charges against a 24-year-old man in connection with the stabbing death of a man reputed to be the leader of a gang allegedly tied to the Surrey Six murders.

Jimi Sandhu was arrested Friday and charged with second degree murder in last month's slaying of Matthew Campbell in an Abbotsford parking lot last month.

Sandu is expected to appear in Abbotsford court on Monday.

Local media have suggested Campbell was the latest leader of the Red Scorpions.

The gang has been accused of being behind the slayings of six men in a Surrey highrise in October 2007.

Two innocent bystanders, 55-year-old fireplace repairman Ed Schellenberg and 22-year-old building resident Chris Mohan, were shot to death in a condominium alongside four men with ties to a rival drug gang.

Two men are currently on trial in those deaths and a third person remains behind bars awaiting a separate trial some time this year.
