The Revelstoke Fire Department has been hard at work, responding to three separate fires over the past 24 hours.
Fire Chief Rob Girard says the latest blaze broke out around 5:30 a.m. this morning in the 1900 block of Lennard Drive, with smoke coming from the light fixtures of the home.
“Upon arrival crews entered the smoke filled structure to locate the hidden fire,” says Girard.
“Fire Crews quickly determined when they opened up ceiling and wall spaces that the fire was in and around the fireplace. We began extinguishment, which took some time due to how the fire advanced in the walls of the residence. All 15 occupants of this vacation rental residence were out of the building when fire crews first arrived on scene and were uninjured.”
Most of the damage was contained to the living room, which sustained substantial smoke and water damage around the stone fireplace.
Girard says that Emergency Social Services is caring for the 15 occupants of the home.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the matter has been turned over the the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, but Girard indicated the fire may be related to the wood fireplace insert and venting.
