Deadly crash near Merritt

A crash on an icy highway in BC's Interior has left one person dead and two others recovering from injuries.

The accident happened Friday afternoon on Highway 97C southeast of Merritt.

The RCMP say a vehicle carrying three people left the road and rolled down an embankment.

All three people inside the vehicle were transported to hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead.

Police say the highway was icy at the time of the crash.

Janessa Zubot, who sent in the photo, was at the scene of the crash.

"I don't know if you can zoom in and see the car down in the embankment, but it's down there at the steepest point at the end of the fence. Highway was a skating rink.," reports Zubot.

The RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are both investigating.
