Investigation into BC ambulance officials

The top two officials in charge of ambulance services in British Columbia have been placed on paid, administrative leave.

Darwin Sauer of the Provincial Health Services Authority says his agency has also hired a third-party investigator to review what he calls management issues concerning Michael MacDougall and Les Fisher.

He says MacDougall is the executive vice-president of the health-services authority and president of BC Emergency Health Services, and Fisher is the chief operating officer of the BC Ambulance Service.

Sauer says he can't provide any other details about the investigation because it is a personnel matter.

He says Carl Roy, the interim president and chief executive officer of the health-services authority, and Peter Thorpe, an executive director for the ambulance service, will assume the positions.

Sauer wouldn't place a timeline on the investigation.
