RCMP in Vernon have released the name of the man killed in a motorcycle crash Tuesday afternoon on Highway 6 Learmouth Road.

Anthony Francis Mulholland Jr., 21, died when his motorcycle collided with a pick-up truck.

The crash forced closure of the Highway for several hours.

Police spokesman, Gord Molendyk says speed is believed to have been a contributing factor.

"The westbound motorcycle travelling at a high rate of speed passed an RCMP car going in the opposite direction," says Molendyk.

"The police car turned around and started to pursue the motorcyclist, but the accident occurred before the officer could catch up, Molendyk says."

The RCMP and Coroners Office are both investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Molendyk says anyone in the area of Highway 6 and Learmouth Road at about 3 p.m. Tuesday that may have seen the driving actions of either the motorcycle or the pick-up are asked to contact RCMP.
