Healthcare coverage for Acupuncture

With 2014 almost in the books many people are beginning to think about their New Year resolutions. I have personally noticed that for many people their resolutions revolve around becoming fitter, healthier or learning to lead a healthier life.  As a healthcare provider I am always happy to hear when people decide to take a proactive approach to making changes in their lives in order to become happier and healthier.   However, for some the road to achieving these goals can be challenging because of past injuries, current health conditions, or simply due to a lack of education and knowledge of how to properly achieve the desired goals.

These folks often need to tap into outside resources to achieve their health and wellness goals.   They may need to see healthcare practitioners such as myself for nutritional and lifestyle counseling, treatment for fatigue, chronic pain, asthma or other illness, or perhaps they need to get chiropractic treatment for injuries stemming from structural problems.   Whatever the type of therapy or knowledge that might be needed it can take time and money for many people to get themselves to a healthy state of being, so that they can achieve optimal health and fitness on their own accord.   That’s why this is a perfect time of year to get a head start on New Year health and wellness goals, or any type of wellness goal for that matter.

For the majority of people who work for a company and for some business owners with the right insurance, their extended healthcare benefits plans may partially cover some of the healthcare expenses.  Each extended healthcare plan is different in the amounts and types of healthcare services it will cover.  The majority of plans cover Massage Therapy, Chiropractic, Dental, Optometry, and prescription medications. But what a lot of people are unaware of is that most plans cover between $300 - $500 a year of Acupuncture treatments provided by a Registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac) or Chinese Medicine Practitioner (R.TCM.P).

I urge you to investigate your healthcare plans and find out exactly what your coverage entails and take advantage of it!  Most plans provide coverage from December 31st of the previous year to December 31st of the following year.  Now is the time to utilize any unused benefits and get you into a position to achieve optimal health in 2015 and beyond.
