Treecycling: Drop off locations

Once Christmas is over, your real tree can be converted to mulch in a seasonal recycling program. This mulch is then used in a variety of ways - to cover hiking trails in area parks, to serve as protective covering in your garden, or to help retain moisture around a newly planted tree.

Every year the Regional District of the Central Okanagan establishes a number of Christmas tree drop-off locations, open from December 26 until the end of January.

The 2012-2013 drop-off locations are:

Kelowna

  • At the corner of Richter Street and Rowcliffe Avenue
  • Glenmore Landfill

Westside

  • Westside Residential Waste Disposal and Recycling Center

Lake Country

  • Jack Seaton Park

Peachland

  • Compost Site on Princeton Avenue

Trees dropped off at these locations are chipped and then composted into Glenmore Grow. Use of the drop-off locations reduces overall costs and greenhouse gas emissions associated with fuel use, and divert the trees from our landfill.

Please remove all decorations and tinsel, as well as the plastic bags you use for transporting the tree, before dropping it off for recycling.

Alternatively, If you’d like to dispose of your own tree, you can cut it up into small pieces and put it in your yard waste bin for spring pickup.
