Alternator presents: Content Orange
The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art is pleased to present the work of students from the University of British Columbia Okanagan from October 1 to 22, 2008. The installation, entitled Content Orange, is the collaborative effort of the 12 members of the Advanced Sculpture class in the Department of Creative and Critical Studies. Students will exhibit in the Alternator Window Gallery, a glass enclosed exhibition space in the public area of the Rotary Centre for the Arts. Content Orange will address the idea of display. When considering the window as an ideal space for visual display the group decided to challenge popular notions of visibility and access. Their first decision was to create limitations on the visibility of the space, playing with the idea of restriction: a limited view - the indications of censorship - a lack of transparency in the society that we live in. But what will they give back to the viewer-what exceeds the limitations of visibility? Content Orange represents 12 different perspectives on the idea of restriction and asks the question: How does sound affect perception? Please note: Content may be offensive to some viewers. The Alternator, an artist-run centre located on the main floor of the Rotary Centre for the Arts at 421 Cawston Avenue in Kelowna, BC, is open from 11 to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.
