Join us for this fascinating program on Black Widow Spiders and their relatives, and discover the secret world of these mysterious little creatures!!!

1:00 PM - WHOOOOO GOES THERE?

Spend an hour or so learning all about owls, and find out which ones live right here in Bear Creek Park. Owls are seldom seen by people because of their nocturnal nature, but there are many species out there in the forest and grasslands, and you can learn all about them at this interesting program.

7:00 PM - WORLD OF THE COUGAR

Come and join us as we discover the wonderful world of the cougar, North America’s largest member of the cat family. Secretive and mysterious, these spectacular felines are rarely seen in the wild. They can pose a threat to human beings under certain circumstances, so it is in your best interest to find out a little bit more about them.

Find out all about the different kinds of defenses that animals use to keep themselves safe. There are all kinds of neat little gimmicks that animals have developed that will discourage a potential predator – skunks, wasps, porcupines, and stink bugs are only a few of them!!!

7:00 PM - TICK TALK… TICK TALK… TICK TALK

A great many park visitors are unaware that ticks inhabit the grasslands and forests of the Okanagan. These tiny parasites can carry some nasty diseases, and are the subject of much controversy. Come out and discover the facts about them at this entertaining program.

1:00 PM - OGOPOGO - FACT OR FICTION ???

Join us for a lively hour of discussion about OGOPOGO, the Okanagan's very own Lake Monster. Find out some of the history and the hype, and decide for yourself if he is really out there beneath the waves !!!

7:00 PM - SCORPIONS

A startling fact to many park visitors, scorpions do inhabit the Okanagan. Millions of years old, cloaked in mystery and myth, this fascinating little invertebrate is just full of wonderful surprises. Come and discover them at this entertaining program.

Monday, Aug 18

1:00 PM - BEAR CREEK NATURE HIKE

Join us for an hour or so as we take a leisurely but interesting walk around Bear Creek to see the sights. We will be studying the plant life in the area, and discussing the food and technological uses of a wide variety of trees, flowers and shrubs.

The park is located on Westside Road, 9 km off Highway 97, west of Kelowna. From Highway 97, travelling south, leave the city of Kelowna, cross floating bridge on Highway 97 out of Kelowna, travel 2 km and turn west onto Westside Road at the main intersection and follow for 7 km. The entrance to the park is just past the bridge over the Lambly (Bear) Creek. The closest community, towns and cities are Kelowna, Westbank and small housing developments on Westside Road.
