Cantus Missae: Rheinberger and the Romantics

Saturday, February 24, 2018     7:30 PM

Holy Rosary Cathedral, 646 Richards St. , Vancouver Locate on the map

Hear German Romantic choral music at its best presented by the Vancouver Cantata Singers. Josef Rheinberger’s most famous choral piece, Cantus Missae, was written for double choir with a unique influence of renaissance polyphony and romantic harmony. As a prolific composer, Rheinberger was remarkable for his power of invention, masterful technique, and a noble, solid style. Johannes Brahms and Anton Bruckner also wrote several a cappella choral works which feature the rich harmonic beauty of the 19th century. VCS alumni members will join us on stage as we celebrate our 60th anniversary season!
