Kelowna RCMP have provided the following update on the police situation that took place on Monday in Black Mountain.
Police received a report of a fight between eight people at 11:30 a.m., where some people were said to have used bats and hockey sticks, but no weapons were ever recovered.
At one point, a woman was reportedly knocked unconscious with a snow shovel and carried away in a Chevy pickup truck. When officers arrived, they found a 43-year-old Kelowna man with injuries that required medical attention. He was taken to hospital and has since been released.
The suspect vehicle was tracked up a forest service road between Toovey Road and Loseth Drive, where seven people were eventually taken into custody.
Cst. Kris Clark says alcohol appears to have been a catalyst in the incident, and aside from witness accounts, none of the parties have been cooperating with police and all but one of the suspects have been released without charges.
A 29-year-old Penticton man remains in custody due to an unendorsed warrant out of Prince George.
Upwards of half a dozen people were taken into custody after a fight broke out in Kelowna Monday morning. RCMP say that bats and hockey sticks were being used as weapons.
The incident began at around 11:30 a.m. near Bedford Avenue and Dunn Street, but ended on the hill at the top of Loseth Drive in Black Mountain. While details remain scarce, a stolen car is also believed to have been involved.
The exact number of arrests has not been officially released, but witnesses say between five and six individuals were handcuffed and placed in RCMP vehicles. The group included at least two females.
The RCMP sent at least six vehicles and a motorcycle to the scene; they also added a dog team when the group headed up the hillside.
