Fire rips through Peachland home

A home on Whinton Crescent in Peachland suffered severe damage as a result of a fire Tuesday afternoon.

Peachland Fire Chief, Dennis Craig, says fire crews responded after receiving reports of smoke coming from the roof.

"When we arrived on scene we had heavy smoke and no flame coming from the electrical mast of the house," says Craig.

"We have determined that it was an electrical fire. It's not considered suspicious at this time but it will be under investigation."

Craig says the fire started in the basement and extended into the walls where fire crews were able to stop it.

"There is smoke damage to the upstairs and some flame damage inside the walls," says Craig.

"The house will require some sort of restoration. We had to breach walls and there was substantial smoke damage to the house."

Craig says the homeowner was able to vacate the home.

"He was out when we arrived."
