Rutland school kids become builders

Students at South Rutland Elementary School are just a little more savvy when it comes to using construction tools, thanks to a helping hand from some people who really know the business of building.

On May 24, 2013, during the school’s Play Day, MGC Construction hosted an activity station called “Let’s Build Something Great”. MGC staff helped more than 120 primary students build and paint planter boxes, tool boxes, and jewelry boxes. Nearly every student in the school had the opportunity to build something.

Throughout April and May, MGC employees volunteered at South Rutland Elementary School in Kelowna to lead and participate in activities with the students during recess. The effort was in conjunction with the school’s Play Pal leadership program.

“Our partnership with MCG Construction has been a wonderful experience," explained Cathie Mutter, Principal of South Rutland Elementary.  "Our students have benefited from the involvement of this group of dedicated volunteers and they’ve had a lot of fun in the process.

"Our students’ “Got Health” project (with the Central Okanagan School District, health-promoting schools staff and Ministry of Health) was even more of a successful because of the support of MGC Construction,” said Mutter.

"We were also happy to donate an iPad to the support services department of the school, and hope it will be a useful tool for years to come," she added
