A Kelowna singer is doing his part to help raise money for some worthy charities.
Gorden James, a country artist, recently finished recording 'Better Land' at Music City Studio. The song was written for the Soles 4 Souls campaign and when it is released later this summer, as a single, the total proceeds will be going to the campaign.
James decided to write 'Better Land' after speaking with local Soles 4 Souls organizer Jim Belshaw of Roy's Shoes, about his project and the mission to help those less fortunate by providing them with healthy comfortable footwear.
"The song draws on a couple of things," says James who also volunteers in the community. "I wrote 'Better Land' as a call to action to all to find a cause in your community and 'do what you can', I think no matter how busy we are we can still find an hour a month to help one of the amazing charities."
Jim and his wife Karen Belshaw are currently on their way to Nashville, to speak with Soles 4 Souls HQ and brought James' song with them.
James has also released a song for the Kelowna Hospice House titled 'Loving Beyond Goodbye'.
As an avid volunteer for the Hospice, James will once again donate the proceeds from the single to help the cause.
The Country star was recently selected as one for 30 artists sleeted to participate in CMT Canada's Big in a Small Town.
"They picked 30 artists from across Canada, two of us from BC. It was a really cool experience. All the staff and crew treated us like gold. It gave my album, Heart of the Matter, great exposure and has inspired me to get back in the studio," explains James.
James released four singles last year and is now currently working on a recording with the Good Guys Band, that is to be released sometime this year.
You can catch James this Friday and Saturday (June 7,8) at the Coast Capri- Vintner's Room.
Listen to both 'Better Land', 'Loving Beyond Goodbye and more of Jame's music, here.
