A brazen thief, wearing a mask, ball cap and brandishing what appeared to be pepper spray, held up the Toronto Dominion Bank in the Okanagan Lake Shopping Center located at 525 South Highway 97 on the West Side before making his getaway on a bicycle.
The robbery occurred at approximately 7:38 p.m. Friday and an undisclosed amount of money was handed over by bank staff. The thief entered the bank wearing a large jacket, sunglasses, a ski mask and a baseball cap pulled low.
"At approximately 7:38 p.m. and unknown male entered the bank and demanded money from the employees," explained West Kelowna RCMP detachment watch commander Cst. Kennedy.
"He was aggressively shouting commands to give him money to the bank staff and then left on a bike after he got what he demanded,"
Police dog units were called in to track the thief and his trail led police to a bicycle and a pile of discarded clothing - identified as that which was worn in the robbery. However, the trail went cold when RCMP tried to track him further.
"The trail ended on Nancy Way," said Kennedy.
Plain clothes unit has now taken over the case and will continue to pursue the suspect through various channels.
