Dummy plates lead to arrests
A suspicious license plate led police to arrest three people on multiple charges after a traffic stop on March 20, 2013.
Officers noticed the car in the 800 block of Saucier Avenue and found the 1993 Ford Taurus bore a BC license plate registered to another vehicle. When they approached the car, a man was observed placing something in the truck – that item was later found to be a .25 calibre handgun.
The 31-year-old fled the scene on foot, breaking into a nearby house in an attempt to evade police, but he was taken into custody.
At the same time, a 28-year-old female passenger was seen removing a container from the trunk of a car and concealing it in a nearby yard. It turned out to contain various quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, marihuana, suspected fentynol, percocet, lorazepam and clorazepam.
The 27-year-old driver was arrested for driving while prohibited and obstruction of justice for providing a false name. He was also wanted for outstanding warrants in Vernon.
The passengers face potential charges of obstruction, careless use of firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
