Vernon and North Okanagan
Commute route change Monday morning
Now, it's Vernon's turn to begin a downtown revitalization project.
The project along 30 Avenue between between 33 and 35 streets begins early next Monday morning, March 25.
The road will be closed to vehicle traffic.
Initially, pedestrians will be able to get to the businesses via the sidewalks while the road construction is happening. Businesses will be open during the construction and they appreciate the public’s support.
Vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be re-directed around the construction as necessary.
During construction, the BC Transit stop that is normally located on the south side of the downtown Safeway will be re-located to the north side of the downtown Safeway on 35 Street in front of the Discovery Plaza and on the side of Simply Delicious.
All project information, including the landscape design, is posted on the 30 Avenue Project page on the City of Vernon website.
City of Vernon Council approved the initial budget funding for this project at the January 14, 2013 Council meeting.
On Wednesday, March 13, Council supported additional project funding.
Construction is weather dependent and is slated to be complete in early July.
