Conference for aboriginal youth this week

Penticton will host more than 1,000 youth delegates from British Columbia and around Canada at the 11th annual Aboriginal Youth Conference, Gathering our Voices on Health 2013, from Mar. 19 to 22.

The BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres and Ooknakane Friendship Centre will host the event on the traditional territory of the Okanagan peoples at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre.

Aboriginal youth, ages 12 to 24, are invited to take part in the conference that will focus on issues including health, language, culture, the environment, sports and recreation .

There will be many workshops, cultural activities, an interactive career and education fair, evening entertainment and after noon sport and recreation activities.

Registration is still open and the conference fee is $174 per person .

The conference is also still seeking volunteers.

The Friendship Centre movement is built on community support, trust and strong leadership and is mandated to improve the quality of life for Aboriginal peoples throughout Canada.
