Solid Waste Management fees changed

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) Board of Directors adopted changes to the Municipal Solid Waste Management Bylaw, which regulates use of, and sets fees for the recycling and disposal of municipal solid waste at RDNO Recycling and Disposal Facilities (RDFs).

The most significant changes are:
- an increase in the Regular Refuse disposal fee from $88/tonne to $90.50/tonne (the minimum charge for refuse remains at $3)
- the fee for Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste will increase by $20/tonne to $180/tonne
- the fee for disposal of Regulated Material (i.e. loads disposed that contain divertible and/or recyclable material such as asphalt roofing, yard and garden waste, glass, scrap metal, wood and Blue Bag recyclables) increases by $20/tonne to $180/tonne
- the disposal fee for Asphalt Roofing – Major Contamination will increase by $20/tonne to $180/tonne
- the fee for Mattresses and Box Springs increase by $1/unit to $7/unit.
The Municipal Solid Waste Management Bylaw will be posted on the RDNO website as of April 1 and will take effect, Monday, April 8.
