RCMP in Vernon are investigating the city's first motor vehicle fatality of the year.

Police say a 33-year-old Vernon man died as a result of injuries suffered in a single vehicle collision in the 5600 block of Old Kamloops Road about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

He was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

Police and the coroner are investigating the cause of the crash, however, Molendyk says early indications point to speed and alcohol  being likely contributing factors.
