Eco-friendly, reusable moving boxes

People move - once every five years on average. Moving can be a highly stressful event. We gather every single thing we own and we pack it up, transport it and unpack it somewhere else. Just the thought of the thousand things that need to be planned or coordinated in order to move can be overwhelming.

The status quo for moving is to pack and transport all your stuff in random sized cardboard boxes. Finding suitable cardboard boxes for moving is like being on a scavenger hunt with serious competition. Whether you find a box behind a liquor store or pay retail for it brand new, it's first come first serve, winner takes all. The worst thing is that you can spend weeks driving around to find enough boxes to do the job.

Alas, the good news is that there is an alternative to the madness. Now you can rent large, stackable, plastic boxes in quantity, and for as long as you need them. Companies like Frogbox - you may recognize them from the hit show, Dragons Den - are changing the way we move. They deliver and pick up large, sturdy, waterproof, tub designed, engineered, plastic, moving boxes with the lids attached. When a box is full, flip the lid closed and you’re done. No taping, no worrying about the bottom falling out or falling over. Better yet, you don’t have to worry about those nasty copper staples in the bottom of cardboard boxes scratching your countertops or furniture.

“To move them, you can stack them on a dolly, wheel them around or just grab them by the large easy-to-use handles. When not in use, they stack inside of each other taking up little space”, says James Kirkpatrick of Frogbox Okanagan. I know that the enviros love them because they can be used over and over again, and unlike cardboard boxes, they don’t have to be broken down and transported to the recycling yard - saving you time and money, and I think that’s just plain smart. There’s nothing like taking the straggle out of random cardboard boxes and looking like a pro, with a complete system, in front of your friends and neighbours.

You may not know it, but the reusable moving box market has been present in North America for 20 years. Amazingly our European counterparts have been taking advantage of reusable plastic box rentals since the 1960’s. The fact that every one of these boxes will be used hundreds of times each will lessen the impact on the planet as well earning you major points. These green moving boxes are definitely a win-win.
