Vernon fail

I have been a resident of Vernon for the past six years, I have two kids playing in the Atom division for Vernon Minor Hockey and am quite involved in sports (Minor hockey, Minor Lacrosse).

This past weekend, we had a very large Tier 1 Peewee hockey tournament (Coca-Cola Classic) in Vernon at the Vernon Civic Centre.  This arena also hosts many other tournaments throughout the year.  There were teams from all over the province here to play and let me mention, the organizers did a great job!

My problem lies in the appearance of the facility. I can't imagine what the people coming to our tournament will be telling their friends about Vernon after experiencing that run down building and that dirty disgusting parking lot!

The city in their infinite wisdom have designated the parking lot as public parking so now people/kids using the facility have to drag expensive hockey bags through a muddy, pot hole laden parking lot from the far end because of employees of local businesses being inconsiderate to facility patrons and clogging parking closest to the entrances.

The demolition of that building is on permanent hold and not doing the upkeep is inexcusable. PAINT the building, do the minor cosmetic repairs, pave or at the very least grade the parking lot and designate the back half of parking lot for public parking! Show some PRIDE!

Vernon city council should be ashamed of themselves and for me, this is a great big FAIL!
