Home destroyed by fire
A Penticton home has been destroyed by smoke and water damage after a fire broke out at 1109 Killarney Street.
Fire Chief Wayne Williams says a passerby called it in after noticing smoke coming from the roof of the home and crews found a fire in the crawl space.
“It also looked like the fire had damaged the water line, so the water line burst which actually helped suppress the fire,” he says.
“Our crews went in and extinguished the remainder of the fire. There was heavy smoke damage to the residence and the residents will not be returning there right away.”
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but they do not consider it to be suspicious. No one was home at the time, but crews say the people do have home insurance.
Investigators continue to be on scene this morning.
