You're poorer than you think

So the Liberal Party has just tabled a budget that will dig deeper into our pockets making us all poorer. The budget includes a 1% increase to the provinces’ corporate income tax starting April 1st of this year. In addition we will see a 4% increase to MSP premiums as of Jan. 1, 2014. And this is the one that I find most comical; there will be a “Temporary” increase in personal income taxes – set to begin Jan 1, 2014 – for people making more than $150,000 per year. Lest we forget, it was Prime Minister Robert Borden who first introduced Canada to Income Tax in 1917. Of course this too was “temporary” to assist with WW1. I’m still waiting for that one to be repealed. Governments have a type of dyslexia which occurs when they see the word “Temporary” followed by the word “Tax”. Where we the people would read this as “Temporary Tax” their infliction causes them to see “Permanent Tax”.
To be honest, it blows my mind that we Canadian citizens allow governments to play with money at all. It’s like children and sharp objects. The two should never be put together. Governments have consistently proven throughout history to be the worst stewards of finances.
- It’s not the governments’ money to begin with.
- If they lose the money or give it away to their buddies in business, there are no consequences for their actions.
In a few short weeks, the pathetic players on the provincial government stage will soon come groveling at our doorsteps begging us to put them into power so that they can repeat the same atrocities that their predecessors have committed for decades. This of course will result in larger deficits and fewer rights and freedoms for the people they promise to serve. We need to wake up. Whether it be on the municipal, provincial or federal platform politicians don’t care about you and me. They are there for their own self-interest and that of the party. It’s a lie that has been perpetuated since confederation.
I think M.J. sums up my feelings best about politicians. They don’t really care about us.
