A former Oliver man who was facing charges connected to the death of his stepson in 2000 was sentenced in a Prince George court room on Tuesday.

Lloyd William Cook received a sentence of three years in prison on the charge of unlawful confinement. On the other count of interference with a dead body, he was given two years consecutive.

For the five years total, he will be given 33 days credit on time served, said Neil MacKenzie,  spokesman for the crown.

Cook was arrested last week at an Osoyoos residence after  failing to show up on Jan. 31 for the verdict in his manslaughter trial.

Cook had been on trial in Prince George prior to that in connection with the death of his stepson, 13-year-old Adam Scott Willliams-Dudoward in 2000 in Prince George.

He moved with his family to Oliver following the boy’s death.

After ruling Cook was an absconder, BC Supreme Court Justice Glen Parrett,  who also handed down Tuesday’s sentence, delivered his verdict  in the trial.

Cook was found not guilty of manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death and guilty of unlawful confinement and interfering with a dead body.
