Don't be alarmed if you happen to see several smoke plumes emanating from the Rose Valley area.

With good air quality and venting conditions today (Tuesday, February 12, 2013) the Regional District advises that several controlled burns are underway in Rose Valley Regional Park.

Open burning is allowed today for those eligible property owners with permits from their local fire authority and with a permit issued by West Kelowna Fire Rescue, piles of pine beetle infested and other fire hazard wood debris are being burned today in Rose Valley Regional Park.

Further controlled burns will be required to dispose of the fire hazard debris in this four-hectare section of the park above West Kelowna Road and McPhail Court. 

This material was collected during 2012 as part of a larger 50-hectare fuel modification project.

Several small debris piles are also being burned today by Parks Services staff in the upper elevation of the park. 

This material was collected as part of the planned trail upgrading project in Rose Valley Regional Park.

All local fire departments and local media have been advised of today’s activity in the park and will be notified if further burning takes place.
