A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Spall and Springfield has sent a pedestrian to hospital.

The accident occurred around 11:15 a.m. when two vehicles tried to beat a yellow light.

“It appears a pickup truck was travelling eastbound on Springfield and a Honda Civic was travelling westbound on Springfield, hoping to make a left-hand turn,” explains Cst. Paetz.

“The light turned yellow and the pickup continued to go straight through the yellow light and the driver of the Honda Civic turned left and the two vehicles collided in the intersection.”

The truck pushed the car east down Springfield Road nearly 50 feet, and also continued up onto the sidewalk, striking a female pedestrian.

It is unclear how serious her injuries are, but she was able to communicate with officers before being placed onto a spine board and taken to hospital.

The male driver of the pickup truck was uninjured, but two females in the Honda Civic were checked out by paramedics.

Alcohol has been ruled out as a factor in the crash, but officers will be investigating whether speed played a part in the accident.
