Vernon and North Okanagan News
A 47-year-old Vernon woman learned the hard way it doesn't pay to drive when you have been prohibited to do so.
Monday afternoon an officer with the North Okanagan Traffic Services noticed a woman driving a red 1991 Astro van in the area of 43 Avenue and 29 Street.
The same officer had dealt with the driver earlier in the year and charged her with driving while prohibited.
He was sure the prohibition was still in place and pulled the woman over.
RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says, while dealing with the woman, the officer detected what he believed to be cocaine in plain view.
Further investigation led to the seizure of 14.63 grams of cocaine, 8.54 grams of marijuana, a number of unknown pills and more than $3,900 in cash.
The woman was arrested and the vehicle impounded.
Molendyk says the woman faces charges of Prohibited Driving and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.
Additional charges could be forthcoming once the pills have been analyzed.
The woman was released on a Promise to Appear at a later date.
