Vernon and North Okanagan News
A Vernon resident is serious about keeping a watch on her neighbourhood after her gut feeling led to the arrest of two B & E suspects.
Just before 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday a home owner called police to report a break and enter in the 3000 block of 23rd street.
At the same time an observant citizen spotted a man and a woman walking in the area with full back packs.
According to RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk the couple also had a heavy object concealed under a blanket and a pair of woman's boots.
The citizen also noticed things seemed out of place at a neighbours home.
"The good citizen followed the man and woman a safe distance and watched them enter the Green Valley Motel before she called the RCMP office," explains Molendyk.
Officers arrived on scene with a search warrant, where they discovered the stolen items from the neighbours home and other items believed to be from other theft files in the city.
The suspects were taken to the Vernon detachment and will appear in court Wednesday.
Molendyk says officers are working to identify the property owners of all recovered items.
"This arrest was a direct result of a good neighbour acting on what she felt was not normal activity in her neighbourhood, following up on it and calling the police to report it."
