B & E suspect caught with weapon

A 32-year-old man is expected to appear in court Monday to answer to charges related to a failed break and enter at a home in Vernon Saturday afternoon.

RCMP say the owner of a home contacted them about 5 p.m. Saturday after she confronted a man she says stole various items from inside her home.

When confronted in the backyard the man apparently dropped his backpack and fled the home in the 2900 block of Prospect Drive on a bicycle.

RCMP spokesman Gord Molendyk says officers discovered a lap top computer inside the backpack the owner identified as hers.

Molendyk says police were able to track down a suspect a short distance away near 43 Street and 24 Avenue.

The man, known to police, was arrested for Break and Enter and Possession of a Prohibited weapon.

Molendyk says police are also trying to determine whether the suspect is linked to other crimes that have occurred in the city.
