Feds pony up for wastewater treatment

The District of Lake Country has received more than $4M from the federal government to upgrade its wastewater treatment plant.

The funds came through the federal Gas Tax Fund.

Kelowna-Lake Country MP, Ron Cannan made the announcement Friday.

The project will integrate energy-efficient, green technology and the latest scientific advancements to increase the plant's capacity.

This will help ensure the plant can meet the current and future needs of the community and protect the local environment.

Lake Country is funding the remainder of the $7M project through reserves ($2.6M) and borrowing.

The project also includes $300,000 from the Regional District of Central Okanagan.

"This important infrastructure upgrade project will advance public health and environmental protection throughout the region and maintain prosperity of the area for residents and visitors," says Mayor, James Baker.

"We are grateful for the investment and leadership provided by the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia through the Gas Tax Fund."
