Houston RCMP are continuing their investigation after a local school bus was involved in a head on collision with a vehicle.
The incident happened Thursday afternoon around 4 p.m. on Highway 16 near Alix Frontage Road, two kilometres West of Houston BC.
When officers arrived, 18 kids and the school bus driver were being off loaded from the bus, which had gone off the road and ended up on its side. None of the children are believed to have been hurt in the incident.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident, a blue pickup truck, was transported to Smithers Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP investigators don’t believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash and attribute the accident to the pickup truck driver’s lack of attention.
Witnesses at the scene described the westbound truck crossing into the eastbound lane to avoid a collision with two other westbound vehicles that were stopped and preparing to turn left off of the highway.
There was light snow falling at the time, but very little accumulation on the road surface. Motor vehicle charges are pending against the driver of the pickup truck.
