'Espana' comes to Vernon

As part of a special ensemble cast, the Youth Symphony of the Okanagan will be taking the stage along with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra to perform some fiery Spanish music to the tune of 100 musicians performing together.

“The energy that we will get from the stage in both the enthusiasm of the musicians and the music in which they are performing will create an evening of fun upbeat sounds in each theatre,” says Scott Wilson, general manager of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra.

“Attendees will also be treated to the guitar sounds of guest artist Daniel Bolshoy, all of which will tempt the audience to get up and dance in the isles.”

Daniel Bolshoy – head of the guitar division at UBC’s School of music -- will be the guest musician and has been praised for his friendly and informative spoken introductions along with his solo and chamber musical styling’s.

The five pieces of music will feature vigorous rhythms and expansive melodies – highlighted by “Espana”, written by Emmanuel Chabrier, “Saudades”, an emotional piece by composer John Estacio, “Concerio de Aranjuez”, “Guitar Concerto D”, and finally “Capricci Espagnol”.

Espana opens in Vernon Jan. 20.

Tickets are available at the Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre.
