City council continues budget talks
Vernon city council may extend their annual budget meetings into Saturday morning if discussions do not wrap up this evening, says Mayor Rob Sawatzky.
“Council is working through the 2013 proposed budget with great care and debate has been vigorous and constructive,” he says.
“We are tackling major concepts brought forward in an entirely new budget format. These deal with long-term funding to maintain our infrastructure including roads, sidewalks and our pipe system.
He also says they are trying to establish a stable, sustainable revenue base that delivers the right services to both residents and businesses, while reinvesting wisely in the community.
Discussions began on Wednesday and have continued through the week. City council gets back at it this morning at 9 a.m. with public input at 11:30 a.m.
Meetings will be held in Council Chambers at City Hall.
