South Main Street neighborhood

Discover Vancouver through its diverse neighborhoods - each offers its own hidden gems and local favorites. To help you discover the best of Vancouver, I am putting together a series of articles that will feature a different neighborhood each post. This week I am focusing on the South Main Street neighborhood known as SOMA. Famous for its vast selection of restaurants and coffee shops, here are a few that you won’t want to miss.

The Whip

Satisfy your need for great drinks, an inviting atmosphere and the ultimate in pub food with a visit to The Whip.  The Whip is a neighborhood favorite that offers a diverse menu of classic comfort foods with a mix of eclectic cuisine from around the world. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, must tries on the menu include the Havana Rice Bowl, Pulled Pork Eggs Benedict, and the Three Cheese Ratatouille. If you are feeling up to dessert then you have to have “The Cookie” which is a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie still gooey from the oven topped with vanilla ice cream and strawberries. Hands down this is one of the best desserts that I have had in Vancouver.

Le Petit Cuillere

If you are looking for a place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, stop by Le Petit Cuillere. This quaint little tea shop lets you experience high tea complete with finger sandwiches, fruit preserves, and Devonshire cream. Offering premium loose leaf teas like darling Darjeeling, white tea, lychee, coconut rooibos chai and lemon zinger mint, you are guaranteed to warm up after a cold, wet Vancouver day. With an inviting vintage-chic decor you’ll feel as though you have stepped back in time to a tea shop of old. So put on your Sunday best and make date to visit Le Petit Cuillere.

Sushiyama

Sushiyama is one of my favorite sushi places in Vancouver. A small restaurant just off of Main Street, they offer delicious authentic sushi at beyond reasonable prices. Open for lunch and dinner, come early or you may have to wait for a table at this neighborhood favorite. Must haves at Sushiyama include the house salad, sashimi, spicy tuna roll, and the caterpillar roll. This restaurant is a great place to stop for a quick lunch or dinner but being quite small, it’s best not to go in big groups or you may end up waiting for a table.
