Kelowna woman's 'Price Is Right'
'You're the next contestant on the Price is Right," - words one Kelowna resident will never forget after winning it big on a US Game Show.
Myra, (or Joanie as her friends call her), Murray went to California back in October with a few family members from her home province of Nova Scotia to attend a taping of 'The Price is Right'.
"My step-brother Logan, it was his 18th birthday wish to go to 'The Price is Right' so he booked the tickets and it was all a blur from there," explains the game show contestant.
Murray was forced to keep mum on how she came to win until the episode aired on January 3.
"It was pretty hush, hush, everyone at work kept asking how I did and I told them I was in the front row, it was pretty cool."
However there is much more to the story, in fact Murray was one of the first four contestants called down to guess the right price on a prize.
"We were just hugging all of the contestants and then all of the sudden Robert tapped me on the shoulder and was like 'they called your name', and I was like 'ohmigod', it was just the craziest thing ever," tells Murray.
She was then put up against three other contestants to guess the correct price of a 16 GB Iphone5 without going over.
"I guessed $950 and it was $1,040, so pretty close."
Once up on stage Murray played a game called five price tags, where she had to guess the price of smaller items in order to gain more chances to win the big ticket item.
Murray got three prices correct which gave her three chances to win, and it was her third chance that was the charm.
The 25-year-old won herself a brand new car, a 2013 Ford Mustang.
She credits her step-brother for her win, saying she looked to him for all of the answers.
"He has played the game since he was 8-years-old and that is really the reason we were there."
Ironically Logan always wanted to win a Ford Mustang on the Price is Right, and says he is very jealous of his step sister, although happy for her.
Although she didn't make it to the final showcase, she did get to spin the big wheel, to which she says was very heavy.
Murray doesn't receive her prize until April and will have to make a trip down to California to claim the car. She tells Castanet she isn't sure if she will sell it or keep it at this time.
The big winner also took home the cash value of the Iphone5, and the three items ( a garlic press, a Bissell vacuum and a electric wok) she guessed the correct price on in an effort to win the car.
