Mobile vending rolls back onto agenda

West Kelowna council will be asked to adopt an amended Mobile Vending Policy when it meets for the first time in the new year Tuesday.

Council will also be asked to give first three readings to the Fees and Charges bylaw.

The original policy was initially adopted in May of last year to much public outcry when it was determined mobile ice cream vendors would not be allowed to play its familiar music.

That portion of the policy was eventually dropped.

The new, amended policy will eliminate the need for a business permit for the roaming vendors in addition to the required $75 business licence.

Staff determined, requiring roaming vendors to obtain both the permit and business licence is unnecessary.

While staff propose the permit fee be dropped for roaming vendors, the fee remains in effect for Fixed Vendors near Gallatly Bay and at the Westbank Centre Park.

Those fees range from $250 to $325 annually.

The municipality hopes to issue fixed mobile vending permits no later than March.
