Bike rider tackled by cops

Early one morning in Vernon . . .

RCMP Spokesperson Gordon Molendyk, reports at about 3 a.m. one of the Vernon officers noticed a cyclist riding without lights in the 30th Ave. near Alexis Park Dr. Thursday morning.

Our officer felt he should check this person so he activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the cyclist. The individual took off quickly southbound on 38th St. and through the parkade of an apartment complex on 27th Ave.

The cyclist lost control of his bicycle near 37th St. In attempts to avoid the officer, he took off on foot to 25th Ave. where a second officer was waiting for him and tackled him. The cyclist, a 25-year-old man, was arrested for Obstruction.

It turns out he also had outstanding warrants. A search of the man discovered he was in possession of heroin, cocaine, meth, and clonazepam. He also had two canisters of dog spray and over $500 on him.

The suspect could face charges of, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Obstructing a Peace Officer.

He has since been released on a Promise to appear.
