Penticton can lay claim to the first arrival of 2013 in the Okanagan.
The Okanagan's new year baby was born at Penticton Regional Hospital at 2:57 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
The baby girl, who has yet to be named, was born to Gursimart and Baljinder Chahal.
She came in at 7 pounds, 1 ounce.
This is the second child for the couple who also have a five-year-old boy Arshdeep.
Hospital staff say mother and baby are doing fine and expect the two to leave for home sometime Wednesday.
The first baby born in Vernon came a little more than an hour later.
Aberley Jean Obando-Ortiz was born at 4:05 p.m. at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
She came into the world weighing 5 pounds 15 ounces.
Her parents, Kristy Obando-Ortiz and Shane McDougall are from Vernon.
Kelowna's first baby of 2013 didn't come until 7:15 Tuesday evening.
Miguel Norjeng Japson was born to Jennifer Mendoza and Norlan Japson of Kelowna.
The baby boy weighed in at 5 pounds 8 ounces.
The province's first baby of 2013 was born at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops at 12:02 a.m.
David Jr. Ricky Joe James was born to David James and Geraldine James of Merritt.
