This man was taken into custody after security cameras caught him shoplifting from Bones and Stones.

If you’re planning on doing any five-finger shopping in Kelowna it’s a good idea to avoid Bones and Stones.

After noticing several high-priced items went missing from his store in Spall Plaza, proprietor Bill McKay decided something had to be done.

He purchased and installed several HD video surveillance cameras and didn’t have to wait long before they began to pay off.

At around 10:30am on December 24, a man wearing a black jacket and hat entered and began putting items into his pockets.

The man loaded up, left the store, and approximately 7 minutes later returned and managed to take several more items.

It wasn’t until the video was screened later that day that the incident and the perpetrator were noticed.

“Normally when we see a particular item is being targeted,” said McKay, “we move those items to make it more difficult.   This time we left everything where it was in hopes he’d return.”

 Two days later, on Boxing Day, Bill’s son Jason noticed the man ride by the store on a bicycle and he called the police.  The suspect was apprehended at Wendy’s restaurant a few minutes later and taken into custody.

“We want the community to know that this person has been targeting businesses for some time now,” said McKay.  He recommends owners follow his lead in installing high quality surveillance equipment to protect their merchandise.
