A 39-year-old Kelowna man is cooling his heels behind bars awaiting what could be a laundry list of charges following an incident Monday evening.

Police say events began to unravel sometime before 9 p.m. when officers working the downtown core noticed a prolific offender complete an apparent drug transaction and pick up a known sex trade worker.

The man had been circling the area for some time gaining the attention of police.

Police followed the man and observed his driving become erratic and dangerous - nearly causing multiple accidents as he drove through red lights and failed to stop at stop signs.

"The man was known to have previously fled from marked police vehicles so he was followed to a rural area before any stop was initiated," says Cst. Kris Clark.

"The man fled from the stop and was pursued into a nearby orchard in East Kelowna. During his flight the man damaged three unmarked police vehicles including one by reversing into the front end."

A struggle ensued and police used a Taser to subdue the man.

The suspect received medical attention for minor injuries he received during the arrest.

He remains in custody facing multiple charges including Dangerous Operation Of A Motor Vehicle, Flight From Peace Officer, Fail To Remain at the Scene of an Accident, Assault Peace Officer x 3 and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The suspect was expected to appear in Court later today (Tuesday).
