The RCMP have arrested a suspect in a hit-and-run in Surrey, that was caught on video and have announced a person of interest in a separate, fatal hit-and-run in the Mission area is in custody.
The Mounties say a 53-year-old man from Surrey has been arrested for dangerous driving causing bodily harm in connection with a hit-and-run that injured two pedestrians on Monday.
Police released video footage from a traffic camera that showed a white vehicle turn in the intersection and then hit two women crossing at the crosswalk.
The suspect's vehicle has been seized, while he has been released with a court date scheduled for May 13 of next year.
Meanwhile, the RCMP in Mission, say a 25-year-old man arrested Wednesday night on break-and-enter charges is a person of interest in a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian in the community on Sunday.
The police have said a 65-year-old pedestrian was killed when she was hit by a car while walking along the shoulder of the road.
That suspect remains in custody.
A rash of pedestrian deaths in recent weeks has prompted the BC Coroners Service to issue a safety bulletin urging the pedestrians and drivers to take extra care.
The agency says there have been 13 pedestrian fatalities in the province in the past five weeks.
The service says the number of fatalities in 2012 is already slightly higher than totals for previous years, with more than three weeks left in what is typically one of the most dangerous months for pedestrians.
The coroners service says pedestrians should take steps to increase their visibility and be extra cautious while crossing the road, while drivers should ensure they are alert.
