Mild quake rattles BC coast

The latest in a string of earthquakes has rattled B.C.'s north coast, but it appears this one caused barely a ripple.

The West Coast-Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska, says the quake had a magnitude of 5 and struck at 9:30 Wednesday night about 45 kilometres southwest of Sandspit on Haida Gwaii.

There are no reports of injury or damage and no risk of a tsunami.

Haida Gwaii was rocked by a 7.7 magnitude quake Oct. 27th that briefly triggered a tsunami alert for the B.C. coast.

Since then there have been a series of aftershocks in the region, including parts of the Gulf of Alaska, where one tremor measured 6.4 and another six, but none of them caused any damage or resulted in tsunamis.
