Officer injured while arresting suspect
A series of robberies in Kelowna and West Kelowna launched a police investigation that ended with one man in cuffs.
According to Cst. Kris Clark police were able to identify the suspect earlier this week and began tracking him.
On Tuesday just before 4:30 p.m. West Kelowna received a report of a robbery at The Wine Store on 21300 Louie Drive. As a result of the surveillance on the suspect RCMP were already on scene and the suspect was quickly arrested after a short foot chase.
Clark confirms an RCMP member sustained undisclosed, non-life threatening injuries during the pursuit but that the officer was not assaulted by the suspect.
A witness reports the officer might have injured his shoulder or collar-bone during the apprehension of the suspect. This is unconfirmed by the RCMP.
"The investigation is ongoing and police believe the suspect to be responsible for a number of other robberies in the area," says Clark.
The 37-year-old West Kelowna man remains in police custody at this time and is expected to appear in court later today. He currently faces potential charges of Robbery with an Offensive Weapon and Disguising Face with Intent to Commit an Offence. More charges may be recommended pending further investigation.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880. Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, send the information online or text to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
