Update: Skiers were gearing up for Silver Start's opening day tomorrow, but now that won't be happening.
The mountain has pushed back opening day by a week to Thursday Nov. 29.
More snow is needed in order for the resort to open, the snow base at the hill is 49 cm and 3 cm of new snow has fallen in the last 24 hours.
Although for those who can't wait to make fresh tracks in the powder trails are currently open for Nordic skiing.
With winter conditions ahead of schedule in the North Okanagan, Silver Star Mountain Resort has announced it will be opening on Thursday, November 22.That’s when the Comet Express six-pack will open to groomed trails a full seven days ahead of schedule.
"We're very lucky to have outstanding natural snow conditions here at Silver Star that allow for an earlier opening than many other resorts," says Silver Star general manager, Michael Sherwood in a press release.
To celebrate the early opening, Silver Star is offering 35 per cent off early bookings extending to February 8, 2013 and in honor of its 10 millionth skier visit, the mountain has introduced Canada’s first all-inclusive season pass and day ticket.
“If you book now you’ll find the early booking savings provide lots of flexibility,” says Sherwood.
“You only need to stay two days to enjoy the savings.”
The early season opening will be dependent on snow conditions, but Silver Star is typically one of the first resorts in B.C. to open without the aid of snowmaking and boasts a vertical drop of 2500 ft. and an annual snowfall of over 700 cm.
