Roger Waters performs with veterans
Nov 9, 2012 / 3:00 pm
Roger Waters has performed with wounded veterans.
The Pink Floyd rocker took to the stage of New York's Beacon Theatre with 14 soldiers - who he met recently at the Walter Reed Army Medical Centre in Washington - at the annual Stand Up For Heroes benefit event.
Roger - who lost his grandfather in world War I and his father in World War II - had rehearsed with the group at the hospital and then for a few days in New York, and hailed them as ''fantastic''.
He added: ''[I share] enormous empathy with the men.
''I never talk about the politics because it's not relevant to me. I'm not interested in it.
''What I am interested in is the burdens these guys bear and would never question motive or even dream of talking about any of the politics.''
Roger performed three songs, including Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here', with the veterans.
Ahead of the event - which benefited the Bob Woodruff Foundation, which helps returning veterans and their families - Roger admitted he doesn't think Pink Floyd will perform together again.
He said: ''I think David [Gilmour, guitarist] is retired by and large. I shouldn't speak for him. But that's the impression I get.
''Hey whatever. All good things come to an end.''
The event also featured stars including Bruce Springsteen, Ricky Gervais and Robin Williams.
